New Delhi, April 10: Some succeed because they are destined to, while some succeed because they determine to! This quote is quite apt for our ferocious jawans who have sacrificed their lives just to protect our country. It is necessary that as a country we should applaud their courage and efforts. In this regard, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday lauded the Central Reserve Police Force for their sacrifices and contribution to the nation in fighting the terrorists and naxals.

Speaking on the occasion of CRPF's Valour Day, VP Naidu said that besides assisting the states in maintaining public order, CRPF is also guarding several vital installations and the Parliament House, further adding that the force was the strongest pillar of the country’s internal security apparatus. He further said that in a democratic country peace was very important and the force has always directed its efforts to bring peace in the naxals and terrorism affected areas.

Mr Naidu further added that the CRPF played a commendable role while operating in Jammu & Kashmir where the force launched many operations during the last one year. By controlling terrorism effectively, they have put in place Community Action Programmes that enhance their credibility and acceptability.

Vice Prez said adding that, it is a matter of great relief that due to these continuous operations, a significant decrease was seen in terrorist activities.

Recalling the tale of valor of almost five decades ago, April 9, 1965, when a heavily outnumbered small contingent of CRPF created an unparalleled feat in history by holding at bay the Army Infantry Brigade of Pakistan for over 12 hours, he remembered the CRPF soldiers who sacrificed their life.

He said that terrorism was the enemy of humanity and must be rooted out, while peace was the only answer for progress and development.

He further lauded CRPF and said,'Your commitment to accelerate development is indeed laudable. We cannot have progress without peace. Peace is the pre-condition for progress and development.', while he pointed out towards the protection given by the force to various road development projects in the naxal affected areas in Chattisgrah.

He also Decorated CRPF officers and men with Gallantry Medals on the occasion here, while Director General CRPF RR Bhatnagar and other officers and personnel of the force were also present.

Speaking on the occasion DG CRPF told the audience about history of the Force personnel right from its inception in 1939. He paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the Force on this occasion.
