Assam Chief Minister inaugurates Indigenous Games Festival 2018

Guwahati, Apr 11: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Assam Indigenous Games Festival 2018 on Wednesday at a function held at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati. Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare had organised the festival to encourage the local and indigenous games.

Addressing the gathering after the inauguration the Chief Minister said that it was the endeavour of the present government to promote the indigenous sports and games that are very close to socio-cultural life of the society.

“It is one of the guiding forces for the government to have organised Assam Indigenous Games Festival 2018 to give due exposure to our sporting talents who are otherwise remain away from the spotlight”, he said.

More than nine hundred players from 33 districts are participating in the Indigenous Games Festival 2018.

Sonowal also called upon the people of the state at large to make the games festival a grand success. He urged the nine hundred participating players from 33 districts to play Indigenous Games Festival 2018 highlighting the sportsman spirit and Assam’s richness in indigenous sports.

He said that Assam Indigenous Games Festival would provide a fillip to strengthen social and cultural values of the State.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that the festival has brought all the indigenous sporting talents of the State on one platform which would also promote and strengthen friendship and camaraderie among them. Sonowal also released a special souvenir on the occasion.

Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare Naba Kumar Doley who also spoke on the occasion gave a brief over view of all the schemes that the State government has taken so far in the last 22 months in Assam. He also sought the cooperation of people from all walks of life to make Indigenous Games Festival 2018 successful.
