Ex-PM Manmohan Singh donates books to Punjab University

Chandigarh, Apr 11: In a welcome gesture former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has donated his collection of 3500 books to Punjab University, his alma mater, said a university official on Wednesday.

Dr Singh who was here on Wednesday expressed his desire to donate the books to the varsity. Confirming this, the university authorities said that they would be making arrangements to transport the books and other articles such as photographs, paintings and memorabilia from New Delhi to the university campus.

The books and other objects will be kept in the Guru Teg Bahadur Bhawan on the university campus.

Dr Manmohan Singh, who is a noted economist was a student of Punjab University in the 1950s and later joined the department of economics as a faculty member.

He became a professor at the age of 32 years and continued teaching in PU till the mid-1960s before moving to other international assignments.

He was the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.
