In 25 years, India to play a key role in energy sector: PM Modi tells world leader

New Delhi, April 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi having inaugurated the 16th International Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting (IEFM) meeting stated that the nation would play a key role in energy by 2025. He urged the participating nations that we all must work in the direction to ensure clean, affordable, sustainable and equitable supply of energy.

In his inauguration speech, PM Modi said that his vision for India's energy future has four pillars which are access, efficiency, sustainability and security. "Our government is boosting local manufacturing through Make in India and filling of youth in industries such as textile, petrochemical, engineering," he added. 

PM Modi further said that India's energy consumption will grow 4.5 % every year for the next 25 years. “We are entering to an era of energy abundance, People must have access to clean, affordable and sustainable and equitable supply of energy,” he added.

He said the government has a target of giving clean fuel to 80 million people. PM Modi also said India is the fastest growing large economy in the world, adding that it has achieved high growth rate with low inflation.

The International Energy Forum is jointly organised by India, China and South Korea till April 12 and will be the largest gathering of Energy Ministers from across the globe. Representatives from US, China, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, UAE, Qatar, Nigeria, are attending the meeting.

The biennial IEF Ministerial Meetings are the world’s largest gathering of Energy Ministers, who engage in a dialogue on global energy issues. Energy ministers, industry leaders and heads of key international organisations will debate the future of global energy.

Petroleum ministers from 42 countries would attend the Meeting. These meetings are aimed to improve policy and investment decisions through increased knowledge and experience sharing.

The IEF has 72 countries as its members and they account for almost 90% of global supply and demand for oil and gas. Invitations have also been extended to 20 other countries where India has oil and gas engagements.
