25 Taliban terrorists, 15 troops killed in Afghan government post attack

Kabul, April 12: At least 25 Taliban terrorists and 18 others, including 15 security force personnel were killed in an attack on a government compound last night In Afghanistan.

Deputy Chief Police in Ghazni province, Ramazan Ali Moseni, said the attackers stormed the compound in Khuja Omari district last night, setting off hours of fighting with the security forces.

The militants used a ladder to climb into the compound in the early hours of Thursday, Mohsini said.

Afghan Parliament member Mohammad Arif Rahmani said the District governor, intelligence service Director and a Deputy police official were killed in the attack, along with 15 security personnel.

Rahmani said the attackers planted mines to stop reinforcements from coming to help the government forces fend off the attack.

The attack was one of the deadliest by the Taliban in several weeks and comes as the militants prepare to launch their annual spring offensive, which marks the beginning of the traditional fighting season.

In fresh security operations, eight Taliban, including a notorious commander, were killed in the overnight raid. A pick-up, two motorbikes and some weapons were also seized by security forces.
