Reigning the spot! Rahul Aware, Sushil Kumar gifts India its Freestyle Wrestling Gold in Commonwealth Games

Gold Coast, April 12: Reiterating the winning spree each coming day, India raises high in the field of sports. Swiftly defeating Canada's Steven Takahashi 15-7 in the final to make India proud, Rahul Aware clinched Gold for India in the 57kg men's freestyle wrestling in the ongoing 2018 Commonwealth Games. Besides Rahul Aware, Sushil Kumar also won gold in Men’s Wrestling 74kg category on Thursday.

This was India's 28th medal at 2018 Games including 14 Gold, 6 Silver and 8 Bronze.

Aware reached the final after beating Pakistan's Muhammed Bilal 12-8 in the semi-finals. Aware's semi-final was a thrilling contest as Bilal came up with a spirited performance. Bilal displayed some excellent counter wrestling techniques to draw level at 4-4 early in the second round.

 

Earlier, Aware started his campaign in comprehensive fashion, overpowering George Ramm of England and Australia's Thomas Cichhini by technical superiority.

Defending champion and two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar marched into the gold medal match of the 74 kg category wrestling on Day 8 of the Commonwealth Games 2018.

 

Sushil Kumar returned to the international arena with a bang. Internationally, he last represented his country in Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Babita, who claimed silver in the 2010 edition before gold in Glasgow, failed to break through her rival's defences, going down 2-5 in the contest.

 

Her medal opened India's account in the wrestling competition of the Games.
