New Delhi, April 12: India will continue to be a responsible country while exhausting energy sources says MEA Sushma Swaraj while addressing concluding session of International Energy Forum today.

Swaraj said, “India believes that its gas and oil projects should also benefit its neighbors. The Minister said India is becoming an attractive destination for investment in oil and gas area.”

She said India is working to promote climate justice and expects the world to share technology for clean energy. Swaraj said, Oil and Gas are the strategic commodities and energy is a key engine of India’s economic growth.

She said International Solar Alliance is a reality today and government is focused on renewable energy and working towards incremental growth in the area of energy.

“Currently, India’s per capita energy consumption is almost 1/10 of some of the advanced countries. I assure you that we will be responsible for our incremental energy consumption,” she added.

The MEA added that India was working to promote climate justice in order to protect the poor and vulnerable from adverse impacts of climate change.

"We have launched policies for them for ensuring access to clean forms of energy. We expect the world to share technology know-how to achieve the sources of clean energy," Swaraj said.

She further said that India had recently launched the world's largest renewable energy expansion programme, wherein the country was expected to generate 175 GW of electricity by 2022.
