Beijing, April 13: Today the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held talks with China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi in Shanghai ahead of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to Qingdao for an SCO.

NSA Ajit Doval held talks with Yang Jiechi, Member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of Central Foreign Affairs Commission. This was the second meeting between Doval and Yang after the last year’s 73 days long Dokalam stand-off.

India-China are gearing up for a series of high-level interactions leading up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposed visit to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in June.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are scheduled to be in Beijing on April 24 to attend different meetings of the SCO and interact with their counterparts from the member states.

The eight-member SCO comprises of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan.

NSA Ajit Doval last year met Yang Jiechi on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting and pitched for diplomatic solution to resolve the standoff but sought simultaneous withdrawal of troops of both the sides from the tri-junction with Bhutan.

India, China faceoff lasted for a lengthy span of time and was one of the toughest challenges, which later on ended right before the BRICS Summit that took place in Xiamen, China. Vjay Gokhale played a key role by resolving the face-off between Indian Army and Chinese People's Liberation Army at Doklam Plateau in western Bhutan.
