New Delhi, April 14: Days after the Election Commission launched an investigation in BJP and Congress leaders announcing the Karnataka poll dates even before the Commission revealed them, the board announced the probe result.

After going through a detailed enquiry report submitted by a poll panel committee, the Commission yesterday said, it was not a leak but merely a speculation.

"Alleged leak wasn't a leak and was mere speculation," the Election Commission said. It added that the presentation of news item could have been avoided.

However, the Commission said, the presentation of the news item by some TV channels just as it was making its own announcement was avoidable and they could have acted in a more responsible matter.

It also said political parties should have avoided from tweeting at the crucial juncture when the Commission was announcing poll dates.

Last month, the Commission had constituted a committee of senior officers to investigate the matter related to a tweet by BJP IT Cell Head, a Karnataka Congress leader and others tweets regarding Karnataka assembly elections schedule allegedly before the announcement of poll schedule by the Commission.
