2 passenger killed, 1 injured in a suspected naxal attack on Maurya Express

Patna, April 14: Two people were killed and one injured in a suspected Naxal attack on Maurya express at Bihar's Lakhisarai on Friday morning. A ten meter long heavy broken iron track pierced through general coach at Kiul station.

The rail services were temporarily stopped and the injured were rushed to a hospital. However, it isn't clear whether Naxals were involved in the attack. Meanwhile, Railway has announced an ex gratia of Rs 50,000 to next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 25,000 to seriously injured.

The CPRO of East Central Railway Rajesh Kumar said that a loud explosion was heard in the general Hatia-Gorkahpur Maurya express around 3.00 AM today. He said when the loco pilot inspected the bogie there was panic due to the incident. A long piece of iron track pierced some passengers entering the bogie.

Kumar said the possibility of sabotage could not be ruled out as the area is Naxal infested. He said it is quite unusual that 600 kg heavy piece of rail track entered inside the bogie.

The CPRO said due to the incident the rail traffic on the Kiul-Danapur rail section was stopped for several hours as precautionary measures. He said after the thorough inspection and sensitization rail traffic is normal since 6.30 this morning on the route.

A high-level inquiry has been ordered led by Commissioner of the safety of Eastern Circle PK Acharya. Anti Terror Squad (ATS) of state police is also probing the incident.
