Ensuring access to clean cooking fuel and benefit women, Ujjwala Yojana launched in Telangana

Hyderabad, April 14: With an aim to provide free LPG connections to poor women, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious project 'Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana' (PMUY) in Suryapet.

Addressing the launch, Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took to social platform Twitter, saying “ensuring access to clean cooking fuel has always been at the core of #ModiGovt‘s development strategy for the empowerment & ‘ease of living’ of our rural poor, especially women from the marginalized section of the society.”

 

“LPG has become an instrument to end energy poverty, social upliftment & catalyst of social change. There could not have been a better day than #AmbedkarJayanti to launch #PMUY in the state,” he added further.

After launching the scheme, the Minister handed over a few free LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.

A large number of BJP leaders and cadres, including the party's state unit president K Laxman and BJP floor leader in the Assembly G Kishen Reddy, attended the launch.

According to the reports, 94.36 lakh people have LPG connections in the state so far and nearly 20 lakh families in Telangana will get free LPG connections starting from April 14. More than 5 Crores families stand to benefit from the scheme for which the Centre had allocated Rs 8,000 Crores.
