Committed to eradicate cancer, Gujarat slickly walks on the path of being ‘tobacco free’ state

Rajkot, April 16: Moving ahead on the verge to make Gujarat ‘tobacco-free’, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani urged the society to come forward and contribute to make this dream come true. People are leaning more towards using tobacco which ultimately leads to the deadly disease cancer.

 

The country has made many initiatives to bring forward the issues of the ill effects of consuming tobacco and therefore in order to stop the increasing effect. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today sought the support of society to make Gujarat tobacco-free and said his government was committed to eradicating cancer from the state.

Speaking after inaugurating a cancer awareness camp organised here by the Shri Pujit Rupani Memorial Trust, a welfare organisation formed in the name of the Gujarat chief minister's late son. The Gujarat CM is the chairman of the trust.

The trust has decided to organize cancer awareness camps here in partnership with the Rotary Club of Rajkot (Midtown) and the Ahmedabad-based HCG Hospital.

According to the organizers, leading oncologists from Ahmedabad would check 100 patients free of cost during each of these camps.

He said that there was need to create awareness among those in the younger generation who are addicted to tobacco.

"It is the demand of the times that we should make our society tobacco-free. We are committed to eradicating cancer from Gujarat," Rupani said today.

He said that the state government was planning to have more super specialist hospitals so that people living in remote areas could also get quality medical treatment.

Rupani, during his visit to the city, also laid the foundation stones for a multi-purpose sports complex and a science museum.
