Civic polls begins in Jharkhand; voters to decide fates for 34 local bodies

Ranchi, April 16: Jharkhand in underway for voting for 34 local bodies which consist 5 municipal corporations, 16 municipal councils & 13 Nagar panchayats which began today.

Five municipal corporations (Nagar Nigams), 16 municipalities (Nagar Parishads) and 13 panchayats have gone to polls today in Jharkhand. According to Jharkhand State Election Commission, 278 candidates are in the fray for 34 Mayor and chairman seats, 320 for Deputy Mayor and Vice-chairman, 122 for Mayoral and Presidential posts and 23 candidates for Deputy Mayor and Vice President posts.

The EC has reserved 50 per cent seats for women in these the 34 local bodies. The poll panel has set up 2389 polling booths and tight security has been deployed at each booth.

Till now, these many percentage voting has been witnessed:

Ranchi 13.7 percent, 20 in Tutudana of Ranchi, Chaibasa: 20, Saraikela: 17, Chakulia: 20, Adityapur: 15, Kapali: 15, Lohardaga: 16.35, 13.6 in Ramgarh, Hazaribagh: 12, Sahibganj: 12

The counting of votes for the Jharkhand civic polls will take place on April 20. Counting will begin at 8 am on April 20 and the results will be out by afternoon on Friday.
