New Delhi, April 2: People in India are obsessed with mobile phones. No wonder it has become one of the most important necessity for man. India's mobile phone users have been increasing by the day, various reports suggest the same and now, another study points at the fact that Indian mobile manufacturing industry is leaving no stone unturned to meet the ever-expanding demand.
With a boost in mobile production, imports of the devices registered a drop of less than half in 2017.
"We are happy to inform you that with the strenuous and calibrated efforts of the government of India, ICA and FTTF, India has now emerged as the second largest producer of mobile handsets by volume," ICA National President Pankaj Mohindroo said in a letter addressed to union ministers on March 28
ICA referred to data available from market research firm IHS, China’s National Bureau of Statistics and Vietnam General Statistics Office. According to data shared by ICA, India accounted for 11% of global mobile production in 2017 compared to 3% in 2014.
India has now set a target to achieve around 500 million mobile phone production by 2019.
