Vijay’s Mersal gets international recognition; wins Best Foreign Language Film title at UK National Film Awards

Chennai, April 2: 2017’s Tamil Blockbuster movie Mersal has bagged the prestigious title of the Best Foreign Language Film at the 4th National Film Awards UK 2018. The intense revenge drama was the official entry from India. Adding yet another feather to the cap, Vijay starrer Mersal outnumbered various international flicks like Happy End (France), Loveless (Russia), In the Fade (Germany), The Square (Sweden, Germany, France) Vaya (South Africa), The Insult (Lebanon) and A fantastic woman (Chile).

Helmed by directed by Atlee Kumar, the revenge drama Mersal broke all established records in Tamil film industry. The regional flick took box-office by storm and minted almost Rs 251 crore worldwide. For the first time actor Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy was seen in triple roles.

Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Akkineni also shared the screen with Vijay. Actor-director SJ Surya played the main antagonist whereas Sathyaraj was seen in the pivotal role. The music was composed by legendary A. R. Rahman. The story was co-authored by Baahubali writer V Vijayendra Prasad. The mega project was bankrolled veteran producer Hema Rukmani under the banner of Sri Thenandal Films.

Recently, top Twitter official Matthew Derella, Global Vice-President, Revenue, and Partnership heaped praises on actor Vijay starrer Tamil Movie Mersal. As reported by The Hindu Businessline, Derella said that Mersal had created a lot of buzz in social media which is an evident example of the rise of the South Indian cinema. Mersal was the top hashtag from 2017 in India.
