Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani fetes Commonwealth Gold Medal winner Harmit Desai

Gandhinagar, April 20: Appreciating the performance of Surat boy Harmit Desai in recently held Commonwealth Games 2018, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday met the campaign and conferred a cheque of Rs.33 lakhs under the ‘Khel Pratibha Award’ for winning Gold Medal for India in Table Tennis. In 2015 Harmit with his excellent performance had won the gold medal at the world championship as well as  Asian Championship.

A brainchild of the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, in 2007 state government had introduced the programme called Shaktidoot in order to encourage the local talents. According to state officials, near about 777 candidates were benefited from state government’s unique initiative to boost the culture of sports in the state of Gujarat.
