Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah confirms Badami contest

Bengaluru, April 23: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has finally announced his candidature from Badami segment. The Chief Minister will submit a nomination on Tuesday. When asked about the revised poll strategy, Siddaramaiah refuted the claims of opposition parties and said that he was not worried about the outcome of the poll. 

Siddaramaiah who had filed nomination from Chamundeshwari stated that decision of Badami is a part of Congress’s poll strategy. Citing the example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 poll strategy, Siddaramaiah maintained that he was not afraid of anybody. According to media reports, BJP Leader B Sriramulu is being considered for the prestigious battle against Siddaramaiah. A five-time lawmaker from Chamundeshwari, in 2008, Siddaramaiah contested from Varuna seat. This time, the senior Congress leader is once again contesting from Chamundeshwari seat

On several occasions, the Chief Minister had refuted the reports regarding his candidature from Badami seat. One faction from state Congress was pitching hard for Siddaramaiah’s Badami contest for consolidation of Congress votes in Bagalkot district. Karnataka BJP Chief and Chief Ministerial Candidate B.S. Yeddyurappa will contest from Shikarpuri whereas JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy will be contesting from Ramanagara and Channapatna segments. The 225-member Karnataka assembly will go to polls on May 12 and results will be declared on May 15.
