After 42 years, Indian Foreign Minister touches Mongolia; EAM Swaraj calls on Mongolian community to seize opportunities out of India’s growth

Ulaanbaatar, April 25: After wrapping up China visit, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj kicked off her Mongolia tour. This was External Affairs Minister’s first visit to Mongolia in 42 years! Also, Narendra Modi was the first Prime Minister to tour Mongolia in 2015. 

After arriving in Mongolia, EAM Swaraj called on Mongolian business community to seize economic opportunities arising out of India's growth. Swaraj was warmly received by Deputy Foreign Minister of Mongolia, B.Battsetseg on her arrival in sunny Ulaanbaatar.

EAM Sushma Swaraj led the Indian Delegation at the 6th Joint Committee for Cooperation with the Mongolian FM Tsogtbaatar. EAM Sushma Swaraj and FM Tsogtbaatar also exchanged agreements.

Addressing the Press Conference, EAM Swaraj said that Mongolia is not only our strategic partner for India but also a spiritual neighbour. We share long historical links. Mongolia is well known in India for the valour of her kings and her strong Buddhist heritage. 
 
India was among the first countries, outside the erstwhile Communist bloc, to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia, Swaraj added. Talking on the bilateral relations, EaM stressed that "In the six decades of our partnership, our relations have grown from strength to strength. This is reflected in our widening and deepening strategic partnership today, based on the common ideals of democracy and freedom, and enriched by mutual respect and trust."
 
India has emerged as one of the fastest growing large economies in the world. With its rich natural resources and strong aspiration for development, Mongolia can be an important partner in India’s growth story, said EAM Sushma Swaraj.
 

We India & Mongolia both discussed some of the pressing global challenges facing the humanity particularly terrorism and agreed to calibrate bilaterally and in the international arena to ward off these evil thoughts and designs extended to support terror outfits, said EAM Sushma Swaraj.

EAM Sushma Swaraj was welcomed by the Foreign Minister of Mongolia Damdin Tsogtbaatar ahead of the 6th India-Mongolia Joint Committee meeting.

 

Our two countries not only share a strong historical and cultural link but also are strategic partners in the contemporary context, said.

EAM Swaraj reviewed all the aspects of bilateral relations, especially in trade & investment, energy, mining, animal husbandry, education & capacity building & tourism.

After arriving in Mongolia, EAM Swaraj commenced the day with the blessings. EAM Sushma Swaraj was welcomed by Chief Abbott of Mongolian Buddhism Hambo Lama D. Choijamts at the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery. It is a centre of Mongolian Buddhist and a treasure house of a valuable Buddhist heritage, knowledge and unique rituals.
