PM Modi, Xi mutually vow to counter terrorism, maintain border trust and pump growth engines for Indo-China’s flourishing ties

Wuhan, April 27: Contributing to stand for ‘world peace’, India-China mutually recognize ‘terrorism’ as common threat and vow to ‘counter-terrorism’ unitedly, said Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale. After India-China meet went on serious notes to mutually cooperate, today Ministry of External Affairs held a press conference addressing the media in Wuhan, China. 

Addressing the media, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said PM and President Xi also recognized the common threat posed by terrorism both reiterated their strong condemnation of a resolute opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Both committed to cooperate further in counter-terrorism.

Speaking on cross-border issues, Vijay Gokhale said on the issue of India-China boundary question, the two leaders (Modi & Xi) endorsed work of the special representative to find a fair reasonable &mutual settlement. The two leaders (Modi & Xi) highlighted that it is important to maintain peace along India-China border region & decided that they will issue strategic guidance to their respective militaries to strengthen communications & to build trust & understanding, he added.

"Both the leaders have agreed to maintain peace and tranquillity at the Indo-Chinese border. Communication between the military forces of both the countries will be encouraged," Gokhale noted.

Proposals forwarded by PM included moving ahead to find ways to collaborate in terms of entertainment including films & President said he has seen a no. of Indian films & it would be a good idea to expand this. More Indian films should come to China & vice-versa, Vijay Gokhale added further.

The foreign secretary noted that PM Modi and Xi discussed a range of issues ranging from global challenges, terrorism, regional issues, trade and bilateral ties among others. He also stated that no formal agreement was signed during the summit.

He continued saying that "The summit boosted the bilateral ties. They discussed the importance of balancing trade and promoting greater people-to-people contact. Regional and global issues were also discussed at length. President Xi and PM Modi also discussed the importance of nurturing and boosting mutual understanding which could also contribute to regional and global stability".

Vijay Gokhale noted that both the leaders agreed on pooling resources to become "engines of global growth". India and China also showed commitment toward poverty alleviation and finding "sustainable solutions" to some of the greatest threats faced by the world including food security, climate change, healthcare problems.

During the summit, President Xi and PM Modi talked on ways in which India and China can "join hands" to facilitate "disaster management", "benefit humankind" and boost the "vision of both the countries".
