Kabul, April 30: At least 25 people including nine journalists were killed while 45 others were wounded after two bomb blasts took place at Shash Darak area of the Afghan capital Kabul on Monday morning. The most dangerous terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed the responsibility for the attack.

The first explosion took place after a suicide bomber detonated himself close to the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the main Afghan intelligence agency in which 16 people were killed while 35 others were injured. 20 minutes later, a suicide bomber targeted emergency medical workers and journalists who had arrived at the scene. In this terrifying attack, 9 journalists were killed while 10 others were wounded.

The Afghan Health Ministry confirmed the killings of 25 people including nine journalists. Meanwhile, AFP news agency reported that its chief photographer in Kabul, Shah Marai, was among the dead. Afghanistan's 1TV television channel also reported that its reporter, Ghazi Rasooli, and cameraman, Nowroz Ali Rajabi were killed in the attack. An Al Jazeera photographer was also injured in the incident.

Importantly, the attack bomb blast comes a week after a suicide bomber detonated himself at the doorway of voter registration centre in Kabul. In this horrific incident, 57 people were killed while more than 100 others were injured.

The attacks have multiplied in recent days as parliamentary and district council elections scheduled for October 20 this year. Last month on the occasion of Persian New Year, a suicide bomber killed at least 26 people in Afghanistan.
