Notably, the six new members from the BJP and two legislators of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have joined the Jammu and Kashmir’s government.

A total of four BJP legislators including Kavinder Gupta, Sat Sharma, Rajiv Jasrotia DK Manyal and Shakti Raj administered the oath of office and secrecy by JK governor NN Vohra. Meanwhile, two PDP legislators Mohammed Ashraf Mir and Mohammed Khalil Bandh also administered the oath of office and secrecy.

The Minister of state Sunil Kumar Sharma was also elevated to Cabinet rank. BJP leader Kavinder Gupta will take charge as the next Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. The reshuffling comes after JK deputy CM Nirmal Singh and other BJP members resigned from the Mehbooba Mufti’s cabinet.

The speculations were made that following Kathua incident, all the cabinet members belonged to BJP were asked by party high command to resign from the cabinet of Mehbooba Mufti. However, Ram Madhav who is a national treasure of BJP rubbished the above speculation and said that it has nothing to do with the Kathua incident. “Our government has completed three years and we decided to give a chance to new faces. 5 members of the party will be sworn-in as ministers today.”

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked all its nine ministers in the Mehbooba Mufti government, to submit their resignations to enable bringing in new faces in the two-year-old Mehbooba Mufti cabinet.
