Building on our strong ties with Russia, India seeks cooperation in fighting terrorism: Nirmala Sitharaman

Moscow, April 4: "India seeks Russian cooperation in fighting terrorism, welcomes Russia's growing global profile," said Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while speaking at the plenary session of the 7th Moscow Conference on International Security. This was her first visit to Russia as Defense Minister. 

Speaking on 'Global Security in Polycentric World' at 7th Moscow Conference on International Security plenary session, Nirmala Sitharaman said "we need to ensure that the prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region is not put at risk through unilateral actions that can undermine regional peace and stability."

 

"Economic & diplomatic engagement with Eurasian region is key priority for India. Building on our strong ties with Russia, we are strengthening our linkages with Central Asian countries," Sitharaman continued. "We are developing a range of military to military ties, sharing best practices, building capacities through training as well as cooperating on defense industry and R&D for mutual benefit," she added.

 
 

Ahead of the plenary session of 7th Moscow Conference on International Security, Defense Minister met HE General Wei Fenghe, Defence Minister of China.

 

Nirmala Sitharaman also met H E Mr Aleksandar Vulin, Defence Minister of Republic of Serbia, H E General Ngo Xuan Lich, Defence Minister of Vietnam.

 

On Tuesday, with an aim to enhance and revitalize the relations between India and Russia on the military front, Nirmala Sitharaman met her Russian counterpart General Sergei Shoigu and discussed defence cooperation between the two countries with a focus on military technical cooperation.
