Jaipur, April 5: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been sentenced to a five year prison and fined Rs 10,000 by the Jodhpur Court in connection with the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Kankani village. Earlier, the court found the Dabangg star guilty, while the other stars Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre have been let off by the court.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri pronounced the verdict amidst a packed courtroom, after reserving judgment on March 28. Salman, who has been held guilty under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, faces a maximum punishment of six years behind bars.

Public Prosecutor Bhawani Singh Bhati said there was sufficient evidence against the actors.

The case also involved two more accused Dushyant Singh, a local from the area, has also been acquitted, who had allegedly accompanied them during the alleged poaching incident, and Dinesh Gawre, said to be an assistant of Salman Khan.

The five actors along with two others are accused of killing two blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the intervening night of 1-2 October 1998, during the shooting of Bollywood movie Hum Saath Saath Hain.
