Success continues for India in Commonwealth Games; contingent bagged ten medals including 6 Gold

Gold Coast, April 8: Indian contingent continue to make their country proud with striking a total of 10 medals including six Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games which is being held in Gold Coast, Australia. The latest Gold medal comes from Manu Bhaker and Punam Yadav while Heena Sidhu bags silver medal and Ravi Kumar clinched the bronze medal.

 

Young Indian sensational shooter Manu Bhaker grabbed India's first gold medal in shooting in the women's 10m Air Pistol event while Heena Sidhu finished with a silver medal after coming back strongly in the elimination round. On the other side, Ravi Kumar then shot 224.1 to go on to win bronze in the 10m air rifle final.



Earlier in the day, weightlifter Punam Yadav delivered India its fifth gold of the Commonwealth Games, beating all competitors in the women’s 69kg event. However, with Manu’s gold Indian contingent got sixth gold at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and Sports Minister Rajya Vardhan Rathore extended their wishes to athletes including Heena Sidhu, Manu Bhaker, Punam Yadav and Ravi Kumar and lauded their efforts via Twitter.





List of Indians won Medals in Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games:

Gold

In 10m women's air pistol, Manu Bhaker wins gold and added sixth gold for India at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Weightlifter Punam Yadav became the third woman to claim fifth gold medal for India in the women's 69 kg category at the CWG 2018.

Weightlifter Venkat Rahul Ragala became the fourth Indian to claim a gold medal in the men's 85 kg category.

Weightlifter Satish Kumar Sivalingam won India's third gold in the men’s 77kg category.

Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu landed India its second gold medal, winning the top spot in the women’s 53kg category.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu was the first gold medal winner for India, on an opening day, in the women's 48 kg category.

Silver

In 10m women's air pistol, Heena Sidhu won the silver and added second silver for India at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Weightlifter P Gururaja opened India’s medal account on the first competition day, claiming a silver in the men’s 56kg category.

Bronze

Teenager Deepak Lather from Haryana became the youngest Indian weightlifter to claim a Commonwealth Games medal, clinching a bronze in the men’s 69kg category.
