Venkaiah Naidu meets Nepalese PM; says peace is the prerequisite for progress of any nation

New Delhi, April 8: Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on Saturday called on Vice President Venkaiah Naidu hours after India and Nepal over deepening and solidifying the bilateral relations signed the pact on border security, connectivity, trade and agriculture. 

Interacting with Nepalese PM, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said peace is the prerequisite for the progress of any nation. The Vice President said that relations between India and Nepal show our shared History, Common Cultural Ethos, Trade and Economic Partnership and close people-to-people contact.

Venkaiah Naidu further stated that India’s policy is ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ for achieving shared prosperity of the two countries. “Regular exchanges of High-Level visits demonstrates priority of strengthening our friendship and cooperation,” he added.

The Vice President said that we have Broad-Based Economic and Development Partnership in Training & Education, Infrastructure Development, Health, Culture, Water Resources & River Protection, Agriculture, Rural and Community Development and Small Development Projects at grass-roots level.

 

He further added that enhanced connectivity between both countries for improved People-to-People Connections and to facilitate Trade & Economic Growth. “Increased focus should be on Cross-border Rail links, Integrated Check Posts, Oil Pipeline and Road projects (Hukali roads) issue of land acquisition and clearances are to be settled by Nepal in a time bound manner,” he added.

The Vice President also noted that India and Nepal have tremendous opportunities in Energy and Hydro-power Development, Harnessing Water Resources and Agriculture for mutually beneficial co-operation. “Great Satisfaction that India partners with Nepal in its Human Resource Development – Happy to share our Experience in Skill Development and Capacity-Building,” he concluded.

 

Earlier in the day, India and Nepal agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations in key areas of border security, connectivity, trade and agriculture. The two also countries agreed to develop inland waterways for overall economic development of the region.

Aiming to expand cross-border rail linkages, the two sides have also decided to construct a new electrified rail line, with India’s financial support. The rail line will connect the border city of Raxaul in India to Kathmandu in Nepal. India will also help Nepal in the field of agriculture through organic farming, soil testing and education in farming
