Washington, April 9: A global cyber-attack has left 2,00,000 routers leaving 55,000 devices in the US and 14,000 in China affected. Apart from US and China 3,500 routers and data centres in Iran have been affected by the cyber-attacks.

All the systems affected displayed the US flag on the screens with a message that read, "Don’t mess with our elections." Meanwhile, the attack was neutralised within hours and no data was lost.

After cyber hackers attacked networks in a number of countries including data centres in Iran, Iran’s IT minister Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi said that it was not yet clear as to who carried out the attack. Around 3,500 routers were affected.

The statement said the attack, which hit internet service providers and cut off web access for subscribers, was made possible by a vulnerability in routers from Cisco which had earlier issued a warning and provided a patch that some firms had failed to install over the Iranian new year holiday.

Azari-Jahromi said the attack mainly affected Europe, India and the United States, state television reported.
