Tragic! At least 20 students killed after a school bus fell into deep gorge in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, April 9: In an unfortunate incident, at least 20 students were killed while 25 others were injured after a school bus fell down into a deep gorge Nurpur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has expressed his condolences and monitoring the situation personally.

 

Notably, a school bus with 60 students on board fell into a deep gorge at Nurpur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh at around 4.30 pm. At least 20 students were killed and 25 others injured in an unfortunate accident.

As soon as the accident took place, the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals and rescue operation is underway. A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team along with police, volunteers, doctors are at the spot and leading rescue operation. The gorge was around 100 meters deep due to which the bus could not even be spotted from the road.


Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed his condolences and is monitoring the situation personally. The Chief Minister said that he spoke with Chief Secretary, DG and Deputy Commissioner. “NDRF has immediately been deployed. Rescue operation is underway with the help of locals. I have ordered a magisterial probe,” CM Jai Ram Thakur added.


Meanwhile, Abid Hussain, SDM Nurpur told that 20 bodies have been recovered so far with the help of the local volunteers and police. “It was expected that more bodies would come up, many injured were sent to the hospitals nearby,” he added.

In June last year, ten pilgrims were killed and fifty others wounded after a private bus fell down into a deep gorge near Dhaliara, some 60 km from Dharamshala town in Kangra district. Also, in the month of May last year, a tragic incident took place in which a bus fell into Bhagirathi river near Nalupani while returning from Gangotri shrine in the Himalayas. In this accident, 29 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh were killed.
