Centre directs all states to take necessary precautionary measures in view of bandh

New Delhi, April 9: Amid calls by several groups on social media platforms for ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs in a bid to protect the people and public properties has directed all states to take necessary precautionary measures.

 

The Ministry of Home Affairs has advised all the states to beef up security and make appropriate arrangements to prevent any untoward incident, including the issue of prohibitory orders, if necessary. It also asked for intensification of patrolling in all sensitive locations so as to prevent any loss of life or damage to property.

The Advisory also stressed that District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police be made personally responsible for ensuring that law and order situation remains firmly under control in the areas of their jurisdiction.

Notably, a ‘Bharat Bandh’ has been called by some groups on April 10 who are against caste-based reservations in jobs and education and also aims to protest against the violence that was witnessed on April 2 Bharat Bandh called against the alleged dilution of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

The April 2 Bharat Bandh turned ugly due to the violence in several states and at least 10 people were killed while a hundred others were injured.
