New Delhi, April 9: A Pakistani diplomat Amir Zubair Siddiqui, who serves as Visa counsellor in Sri Lanka has been named wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for conspiring to launch 26/11 type attacks on the US.

The significant development comes a month after the NIA filed a chargesheet against Amir Zubair Siddiqui. The list named Siddiqui as “Boss” who worked as a visa counsellor in the Pakistani High Commission in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the investigation agency said.

According to reports, Siddiqui would recruit spies and instruct them to collect information about defence installations, movement of arms and nuclear establishments. Among the installations, they planned to attack the US consulate in Chennai, the Israeli Consulate in Bengaluru, Eastern Naval Command Head Quarter, Visakhapatnam and ports in the country.

Interestingly, Siddiqui was arrested for allegedly conspiring to attack vital establishments in India and was quietly withdrawn even before the NIA’s request under Mutual Assistance Legal Treaty (MLAT) reached Colombo.

The accused who were questioned admitted that they were tasked by Siddiqui to strike at important locations in South India. During the pendency of the probe, Siddiqui was removed overnight from the commission and flown into Pakistan.

The Indian investigation agency has also written to Interpol seeking help to issue an RCN (Red-Corner Notice) against the Pakistan official. Also, two other Pakistani officers have also been named in the list.
