Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan joins Cauvery protest

Chennai, April 9: Veteran actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan on Sunday extended their support to the ongoing state-wide protest for the constitution of Cauvery Management Board by the Centre. Organised by South Indian Artistes' Association popularly known as Nadigar Sangam, the outfits like Tamil Film Producers' Council (TFPC) and Film Employees' Federation of South India (FEFSI) and Distributors' Association had also backed the silent protest of the celebs.

On this occasion, besides superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan, top Tamil film personalities like Vijay, Vikram, Siva Karthikeyan, legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, actor-director SJ Surya, SIAA president and actor Nasser, Dhanush, Sathyaraj shared the stage. The top film body also staged a protest for the closure of the proposed Sterlite Copper plant in Tuticorin. 

Addressing the gathering, Rajani expressed displeasure over the ongoing Indian Premier League matches in Chennai. The superstar opined that player should boycott the tournament when the state is going through tough times on the issue of Cauvery. He advised Chennai Super Kings player to wear a black band as a mark of protest against the unjust act of center.

A larger number of social groups, NGO and, political outfits are staging a protest against the Sterlite plant and demanding Cauvery Management Board to implement the supreme court’s verdict on inter-state water sharing dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
