Kabul, May 1: At least 40 people including ten journalists and 11 children were killed and 60 others were wounded after the multiple bomb blasts took place in Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul on Monday. Notably, three suicide attacks occurred in Kabul which was later claimed by the most dangerous terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The first explosion took place after a suicide bomber detonated himself close to the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the main Afghan intelligence agency in which 16 people were killed while 35 others were injured. 20 minutes later, a suicide bomber targeted emergency medical workers and journalists who had arrived at the scene. In this terrifying attack, 10 journalists were killed while 10 others were wounded.

AFP news agency reported that its chief photographer in Kabul, Shah Marai, was among the dead. Afghanistan's 1TV television channel also reported that its reporter, Ghazi Rasooli, and cameraman, Nowroz Ali Rajabi were killed in the attack. An Al Jazeera photographer was also injured in the incident. Later, BBC also claimed that one of its reporter was killed in the attack.

However, the third blast took place on a foreign military convoy in southern Kandahar province in which at least 11 children were killed while 16 others were injured. Provincial police spokesman Qasim Afgha said, 16 others were injured, including foreign and Afghan security forces, when a bomb-laden car exploded in the province. Kandahar governor spokesman Said Aziz Ahmad Azizi confirmed the casualty toll. He said that five Romanian soldiers and two Afghan police were among the injured.

Several countries including the United States of America, Romania and Paris condemned the brutal attack in Afghanistan. On the other side, the United Nations also condemned the attack. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is outraged by the series of terrorist attacks in Afghanistan that caused numerous casualties among civilians, emergency responders, school children and journalists.

Importantly, the attack bomb blast comes a week after a suicide bomber detonated himself at the doorway of voter registration centre in Kabul. In this horrific incident, 57 people were killed while more than 100 others were injured.

The attacks have multiplied in recent days as parliamentary and district council elections scheduled for October 20 this year. Last month on the occasion of Persian New Year, a suicide bomber killed at least 26 people in Afghanistan.
