Another squall and heavy rainfall claim 12 lives in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, May 10: Seems like weather is in no good mood in North India. Another trail of squall and heavy rainfall disrupted lives of people in Uttar Pradesh. At least 12 people died in thunderstorm that lashed Braj region of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Police and officials reported four deaths in Etawah, three in Mathura and two in Firozabad. Agra, Aligarh and Kanpur Rural reported one death each.

 

The Met department had issued an alert for three hours for western districts for dust storm and raining. High speed winds have damaged several power stations in Etawah district and it has affected power supply in several areas.

Several trees were uprooted and transmission lines of power have also been affected in different districts. The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district authorities to extend financial and medical assistance to the families of deceased and injured.



Wednesday's storm comes days after dust storms and thunderstorms lashed several areas in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. At least 80 people died then in Uttar Pradesh alone.

The earlier storm hit Agra, Aligarh, Mathura and Firozabad districts in UP. Agra was the worst hit. In the May 2 storm, 73 people were killed and 91 injured across 23 districts in UP. The death toll across north India was 134, with hundreds more injured.
