Celebrating 55 years of diplomatic relationship; India, Peru deepen ties by signing pact on renewable energy

Lima, May 12: Celebrating 55th anniversary of establishment of Diplomatic Relations with Peru, Indian Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and the Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva Arevalo signed agreement strengthening the bond of the two countries. The agreements signed related to the areas of Renewable Energy in Lima.

 

Briefing media in Lima, Secretary (East), Preeti Saran said, VP Naidu had a fruitful discussion with Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra, Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, the leaders discussed various bilateral and international issues of mutual interest.

 

She further emphasized, the discussions were held in the field of pharmaceuticals, space, defence, supply of LPG, clean energy, agriculture and science & technology. She also talked about the possibility of collaboration in Quinoa cultivation and processing with Peru. Peru is an important country for multilateral issues and all the leaders strongly supported India’s candidature for a permanent seat in UN Security Council. Both the country leaders have agreed to work together to combat the menace of terrorism.



Vice President’s visit to Guatemala, Panama and Peru is very important as this will enhance and strengthen the bilateral relations and will increase trade, investments and cooperation among these countries.



Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has said, India and Peru may be separated by geographical location but the two countries are united in the quest for bettering the lives of the people. Addressing the Indian Diaspora at Lima, VP Naidu invited them to participate in India's growth story and contribute in nation building. He lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, he unleashed a massive effort to make up for the time and opportunities lost since independence.

The Vice President said, PM Narendra Modi has given the nation the mantra of Reform, Perform and Transform which has found an echo across the nation.


India has become the fastest growing large economy and Government of India has successfully launched several flagship initiatives such as Make-in India, Startup India, Digital India and Smart Cities; implemented major reforms, like GST to improve ease of doing business.
