Transforming ‘Land-locked Nepal into land and water linked’, PM Modi, Oli strengthen relations between the nations

Katmandu, May 12: India and Nepal share a strong bond and the relationship that the two countries share are extending on the verge that the countries friendship is based on cordial and deep-rooted ties between the people of two countries. India supports a “united, prosperous and strong” Nepal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday as he backed Nepalese PM KP Sharma Oli’s vision to transform the land-locked Himalayan nation into a land- and water-linked country.

Speaking on the joint press meet after holding talks with Oli, who said that Nepal wanted to create a strong relationship based on mutual trust so that it was not affected by “occasional or intermittent differences that are natural between neighbours.”

 

PM Modi said that he is visiting Nepal at a very special time, when elections have been successfully conducted at federal, provincial and local levels. PM Modi said, the Government of India's vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas is complementary with vision of Nepal Government of Samridh Nepal Sukhi Nepali.

 

The Prime Minister said, India is committed to supporting Prime Minister Oli's vision that Nepal should not be a land-locked country but a land- and water-linked nation. The Prime Minister said India will soon install indigenously developed Bhabhatron radiation therapy machine at Bhaktapur cancer hospital in Kathmandu. Along with this, India and Nepal held extensive discussion on all aspects of the bilateral ties and expressed firm commitment to take it to newer heights.

 

Connectivity has been an important factor for both the countries. The countries have been connected through its visual beauty of Himalayan Mountains but we are extending this through road, waterways. After the talks, Mr Modi and Mr Oli also laid the foundation stone of Arun 3 Hydro Electric Power Project.

Elaborating on the Arun Project, PM Modi said that 900 Megawatt Arun 3 Hydro Power Project has being established by India with an investment of 6000 crore rupees. It is one of the biggest project to be undertaken in Nepal. He said, the project will bring economic and business opportunities in the Himalayan nation.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Oli said, Nepal and India have agreed to take concrete measures to realise the benefits of new partnership for agriculture and connectivity by rail links and waterways. PM Modi thanked PM Oli on inviting him again in Nepal and getting the opportunity to visit the Janaki temple and seek blessings from the temple. The bond of India and Nepal has been and will get stronger with each passing year.
