Mumbai, May 14: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a 32-year-old terror suspect who recently arrived in the city after allegedly receiving arms training in Pakistan in a joint operation with the Kolkata police’s Special Task Force (STF).

Rolling out a high profile assassination of the top politicians of Maharashtra, the accused named as Faisal Hasan Mirza, had been to Pakistan for the training process by a terror outfit. Along with a few other wanted terrorists, had hatched a plan to carry out attacks on multiple targets across the country. The operation to nab one more terror suspect in the city is currently underway.

Police said the accused got training in handling explosives, sophisticated firearms as well as suicide bombings at a Karachi-based camp run by a terror organization. The official said the arrested man's interrogation had revealed that he was part of a terror group that planned to carry out attacks on "public utilities" and crowded places.

The officials revealed that after spending some time in Sharjah, the suspect was sent to Dubai and from there to Karachi. He then attended a training camp there run by a terror outfit, adding that it has been learnt that this outfit had the backing of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

While social media played an important role, the Kolkata police’s Special Task Force arrested him after they received a tip off about his training. The team kept a watch on his movements and his communication with terror groups on the internet.

The man was presented before a local court which remanded him in ATS custody till May 21.
