Shashi Tharoor charged with abetment of suicide in wife Sunanda Pushkar murder case

New Delhi, May 14: In a major shock to Member of Parliament representing Thrivunanthapuram and former minister of state for external affairs and human resource development Shashi Tharoor has been charged with abetment of his wife Sundanda Pushkar’s suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

 

The Delhi police under its charge sheet putting forward to Supreme Court also have charged Tharoor with cruelty to his wife during the marriage from 2010 to 2014 under Section 498A. Former Senior Shashi Tharoor wife Sunanda Pushkar was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a suite of a five-star hotel in Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014. On February 23, Tharoor said he was looking for a conclusion in his wife’s death case.

A special investigation team that was formed to investigate Pushkar's death had told the Supreme Court last month that it had prepared a final draft report. Rubbishing and stating displeasure on the decision of the Delhi Police charging him under the charge sheet and accusing him opf abetting him for his wife’s death.

 

Under Section 306, Tharoor will be liable to be punished with a ten year jail term if found guilty. Under Section 498A, which penalizes the accused for subjecting their wives to cruelty and is a non-bailable offence; Tharoor will liable for a three-year jail term if found guilty.
