Kolkata, May 14: After months of uncertainty and chaos swaying the air of violence and protest, West Bengal Panchayat Polls are underway. Paving path for the much awaited West Bengal Panchayat polls, voting for the panchayat elections began on Monday even as violent clashes and booth capturing at several parts of the state.

The voting has been taking place at for 621 zilla parishads, 6,157 panchayat samitis, and 31,827 gram panchayats. Amid tight security imposed on the poll centers, there were many instances of TMC hooligans attacking people in West Bengal. The polling has been scheduled to be held at 20 districts. Hovering strict and tight security As many as 1,54,500 policemen, including Bengal police, civic volunteers and cops from the Sikkim, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been deployed to ensure peaceful voting. Police have sealed the state’s border with Jharkhand.

Violence has been haunting the regions of West Bengal in Bagda of North 24 Parganas district, nine goons were caught by villagers stamping ballot papers in a booth and beaten up, before being handed over to police and sent to hospital. Instances came in as the TMC goons had attacked people with sticks stopping them from entering the booth. It has been noticed that the people complained of TMC goons attacking them and hitting them with sticks. Almost 20 people have been injured in this act.

Incidents of violence have been witnessed in West Bengal as the TMC goons have attacked the members filing nominations. CPI (M) has alleged that the TMC goons had attacked their worker & his wife was charred to death after their house in North 24 Parganas was torched last night.

The TMC goons have duped to a level that they have barred the voters from polling. Even the media has been barred from reporting as their cars and camera were been lit by the goons stopping them too. This has created havoc in the state with the TMC showing their unnecessary power and letting the air of terror sway in the state. Generating a heated atmosphere in the state, it has seen 100% polling in some districts.

It’s time that the TMC understand that violence will not let them earn votes and this actions show that barring the voters from moving ahead will only increase their chances of losing and weakening their power.

The state has witnessed several incidents of political clashes and violence over the past few weeks. After about 34 per cent of the seats were won by the Trinamool Congress, the Supreme Court last week expressed concern that such a large percentage of seats were won by the ruling party and the top court stayed the notification of those results.
