Sana’a, May 14: At least 115 people were killed in Yemen in two days after the outbreak of gun battle between forces loyal to a Saudi-led coalition and Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Notably, Yemen is still suffering from the dual attack i.e civil war and another one from the outbreak of cholera.

Yemeni officials on Sunday claimed that as many as 115 people were killed while a hundred others were injured in Taiz province of Western Yemen after the gun battle erupted between forces loyal to a Saudi-led coalition and Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

The officials also noted that the forces loyal to the coalition backing the internationally recognized government seized control of some rebel-held areas in western Yemen. However, the gun battle comes in line with the series of ballistic missiles fired upon Saudi Arabia by Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

Meanwhile, the death toll has mounted to 2,250 in Yemen due to waterborne disease cholera and the suspected cases have reached over 1,060,000. In 2011, some 719,377 suspected cases of cholera were recorded in Haiti, and 8,767 people died.

Importantly, the Saudi-led coalition has been at war with Yemeni rebels known as Houthis since March 2015. During the civil war, at least 10,000 people were killed while millions were displaced.
