#KarnatakaElections2018 : Congress tries to enter in power via backdoor, bids support to JD(S) in forming govt

Bengaluru, May 15: Politics is known for twist and turns and Karnataka seems to get twisted amidst counting of votes for the Assembly polls. Though BJP has emerged as a single largest party, Congress is looking forward to make its government in joint coalition with JD(S).

 

According to the available data from Election Commission, BJP has emerged as a single largest party as it is leading with 107 seats. On the other side, Congress is leading 73 seats while JD(S) is leading on 40 seats.

Congress in a bid to enter in power from backdoor has asked JDS to form the government with its support. Notably, Congress playing its card to be in power of Karnataka has offered the Chief Ministerial post to Devegowda’s son HD Kumaraswamy.

Congress leader G. Parameshwara said, “We accept the mandate of the people. We bow our heads to the verdict. We don’t have numbers to form a government. The Congress has offered to support JD(S) to form the government.

While Ghulam Nabi Azad while talking to media confirmed that Congress has asked JDS to form the government. “This evening Congress and JDS will go to Governor to form the government in Karnataka.” “We had a telephonic conversation with Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy and they have accepted our offer. Hopefully, we will be together,” he added.

After the above development, in a bid to stop Congress from retaining backdoor power in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sent its top ministers to Bengaluru discuss the current political scenario. Meanwhile, BJP CM candidate BS Yeddyurappa said, “So far the final result is not known. We will know shortly and then announce the future plan. I will consult senior leaders and come back to you.”

Importantly, the counting of votes for the Karnataka assembly elections is underway at 283 centres across the state. The result on 199 seats of 224 Karnataka Assembly constituencies been declared so far and according to which, BJP has won 94 seats while Congress bagged 65 seats and JDS has won 39 seats.
