New Delhi, May 16: The Supreme Court today has directed Centre to amend the proposed draft scheme for Cauvery river water dispute within 24 hours. A three-judge Bench under the Chairmanship of Chief Justice Dipak Misra has asked Attorney General K.K. Venugopal to fine tune the draft as per the direction of SC.

Addressing the issue of authority, the apex court categorically stated that only the proposed Cauvery management board will be entitled to take any call on issues related to the implementation of Cauvery verdict. The top court has asked the government to set up headquarters of the Cauvery board in national capital instead of Bengaluru.

During this hearing, the Supreme Court also turned down the plea of Karnataka demanding adjournment of Cauvery proceedings citing the reason non-formation of government after the fractured mandate in recently held Karnataka polls. On the other hand, states like Karnataka and Kerala raised objections to the policy draft submitted by the center but the apex court rejected the pleas of both states. The final verdict on Cauvery management board is likely to be declared on tomorrow.

In Cauvery water dispute, after the submission of the draft by the center, the apex court will take the final call on the formation of much anticipated Cauvery management board to implement the directions of the Supreme Court’s verdict. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are fighting a legal battle on the issue of water sharing of Cauvery river.
