New Delhi, May 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi blasted at the Congress after it entered in the power of Karnataka via backdoor supporting JD(S) and said that one cannot even imagine that the Congress for its selfish political gains will attempt to sabotage the Constitution of India.

While addressing his party workers in New Delhi on Tuesday, PM Modi said that BJP represents India and its proud diversity. He said, "Are Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, the Northeastern states Hindi speaking states? No, BJP represents India and our proud diversity."

He further reiterated that the verdict of Karnataka has changed the perception that BJP is only a party of the Hindi-speaking states. The Prime Minister, during his address in the national capital, expressed a grief and extended his condolences to the kin of 18 people who lost their lives in an accident in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.

He said, "I am happy about Karnataka's victory but on the other hand, I am saddened by the loss of lives in Varanasi. I extend my condolences to the families of the deceased and further assured that the government will do whatever it can to support these families."

Speaking on the issue of violence during the panchayat elections in West Bengal, PM Modi said that democracy was murdered for narrow political interests. "The way democracy was murdered from filing of nominations to polling, democracy had no place," he added.

Taking a dig at Mamata led Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, PM Modi said that all the efforts were made to ensure that opposition candidates are unable to file their nominations so that ruling party members are elected unopposed. "Ballot boxes were found in a pond as innocent party workers, not only of the BJP but of other parties too, were killed," the Prime Minister said.

Prior to the PM's speech, BJP president Amit Shah had congratulated the party workers for their performance in the state assembly elections and said that BJP will not only win the 2019 elections, but it will also come to power in 2022. "In 2019 we will not only form the government under the leadership of Modi Ji but also form a New India in 2022," he said.

Earlier, in the day, the Prime Minister in a tweet also thanked all the party workers and people of Karnataka to extend support to BJP in Assembly polls. He said, "I thank my sisters and brothers of Karnataka for steadfastly supporting the BJP's development agenda and making BJP the single largest party in the state. I salute the stupendous work of @BJP4Karnataka (state party unit) karyakartas who toiled round the clock and worked for the party."

Notably, BJP emerged as a single largest party as it is leading with 104 seats in the 224-seat assembly of Karnataka. On the other side, Congress is leading 78 seats while JD(S) is leading on 38 seats. However, Congress playing its card to be in power of Karnataka offered the Chief Ministerial post to Devegowda’s son HD Kumaraswamy which is was formally accepted.
