Kolkata, May 17: Democracy in West Bengal has stooped down to such a level that it no longer seems to be a democratic state. Although Trinamool Congress showed a clear win in the West Bengal Panchayat elections, the question are still unanswered as to how long will this unruly behavior and dictator rule of Mamta Banerjee prevail?

Mistreating the democratic right of the people to vote, the TMC goons shunned everything and everyone by creating havoc all over the place. In an unprecedented incident, miscreants allegedly backed by Trinamool Congress were seen putting proxy votes inside a counting centre in full view of polling officials and police. The incident took place in Nadia District. Sudhir Chandra Lal Memorial College in Majhdia town was the venue of a counting center of Krishnagunj block in Nadia.

What were the officials doing when this mishappening took place? Why was there no action taken by the State Election Commission or the Police force, allowing the miscreants do whatever they feel like. Playing with the ballot boxes or barging the counter centers clearly shows the hooliganism of Mamta Government. Be it festival or the democratic right of voting, these goons have their ill-fated hands all over hovering the normal life of the people.

As counting progressed, it was seen that independent candidates backed by opposition parties was leading in several places, including in 102 booth of Shibnivas Gram Panchayat seat. Around noon, a group of miscreants, allegedly TMC workers barged in the counting centre. They first drove out the election agents of opposition parties. Then they along with counting agents allegedly of the ruling party started giving proxy votes, by stamping the ballot papers.

The main question arises as to what is the authority doing and what was it doing when the miscreants barged the counting center and put in proxy votes? What is the state government doing when the Ministry of Home Affairs demanded reports for the violence created in the state during the election process.

Proxy votes, barging the counting centers, misbehaving with the women of the state, everything shows that democracy in West Bengal has seen its downfall. Foul cries of Mamta Banerjee give a taste of how the Chief Minister has no emotions for the people of the state. Making developments in the state nowhere means that the government is good. Having a democratic governance should primarily focus on ‘Of the people, For the people and By the people.’ Sadly, Mamta Banerjee has restructured the meaning of democracy as ‘Power of Hooligans’.
