Donghae City, May 17: Continuing its dominance in the Asian Champions Trophy, Indian women team registered a commanding victory over higher-ranked China by 3-1 and remained unbeaten in the tournament. Notably, Indian team climbs on a top position in the standings of Asian Champions Trophy with two victories from as many games.

 

From the Indian side, Vandana Katariya scored two goals while Gurjit Kaur struck the other goal to lead their team to register a victory against China. While China’s lone goal came from the stick of Wen Dan in the 15th minute.

The Indian team went on to attack the opponent’s goal post right from the beginning. With the great teamwork between Lilima Minz, Navjot Kaur and Vandana gave India the early lead. India’s second goal of the match also came from the stick of Vandana, who smashed it past the Chinese goalkeeper.

Making a comeback, Chinese player Wen Dan scored a goal in the last minute of the first quarter but that did not help China to win the game. Meanwhile, Indian goalkeeper Savita denied the Chinese players to score from four back-to-back penalty corners.


Though the second quarter remained quiet, India came out with a fierce attack in the last quarter as Gurjit scored from a set piece with a low, grounded flick to make the scoreline 3-1. Trailing by two goals, the Chinese players attacked Indian goalpost but denied due to a strong defence.

India will next play Malaysia in their match on Thursday. Malaysia defeated Japan by 3-2 in another encounter on Wednesday. India had earlier defeated Japan 4-1 in their tournament opener.
