Supreme Court ratifies Cauvery board draft

New Delhi, May 18: Supreme Court today ratified the amended draft scheme of the much awaited Cauvery Management Board for the hassle-free implementation Cauvery water sharing mechanism. While approving the provisions drafted by Centre, the apex court turned down the suggestions pitched by Karnataka and Kerala government.
 
The top court also negated the contempt plea of Tamil Nadu against the center for delaying constitution of Cauvery board. According to amended policy, the Cauvery Management Board will collect "daily release of water on a monthly basis from the reservoirs as directed by the authority."

Earlier, the apex court categorically stated that only the proposed Cauvery management board will be entitled to take any call on issues related to the implementation of Cauvery verdict. The top court has asked the government to set up headquarters of the Cauvery board in national capital instead of Bengaluru.

On February 16, the apex court had directed center to draft a policy document for the constitution of water body called Cauvery Management Board for the release of water from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. The Supreme court had reduced Tamil Nadu's share of Cauvery water from 192 TMC to 177.25 TMC on the issue of inter-state water sharing dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
