Gandhinagar, May 18: The government of Gujarat is all set to take financial responsibilities worth Rs 50,000 of the accident cases that occur in the state limits from today onwards.

Notably, the Gujarat government will provide up to Rs. 50,000 in medical treatment for the first 48 hours to all the victims of road accidents admitted to any government or private hospital in Gujarat in the state. According to the new scheme, each and every road accident victim will get free treatment in Gujarat, regardless of their income. There are no bars for the individuals hailing from other states or countries.

A government resolution (GR) issued by the state Health and Family Welfare Department said that the state authority will provide up to Rs. 50,000 in medical treatment for the first 48 hours for each individual who meets with a road accident in the state.

“The free treatment will entail the initial first aid, X-ray, blood transfusion, treatment in ICU and MRI along with all the other emergency facilities the patient might require. In case the patient is shifted from one hospital to another within 48 hours, both the hospitals will be reimbursed for their combined bill within a limit of Rs 50,000,” the GR added.

The GR stated further noted that the move aims at providing timely and better treatment and thereby minimizing the loss of life due to road accidents. According to the GR, the government will reimburse the amount to the hospitals directly on the submission of bills.

Importantly, on an average, 29,300 accidents take place every year in Gujarat, while over 6,400 die in such accidents.
