Beijing, May 19: Those people who work very hard but fail again and again, don’t give up says one of the world’s richest men, Jack Ma, founder and executive chairman of e-commerce giant Alibaba Group while speaking in a convocation ceremony at the University of Hong Kong where he received an honorary doctoral degree on Friday.

He said the world’s future would be shaped by new technology, bringing challenges in almost all aspects of people’s lives, especially in education.

Educators should teach what machines were not capable of, such as creativity and independent thinking, he added.

“Everything that we taught our kids in the past 200 years, machines will do better [in the future],” he said.

I have been trying to enter university many times but failed for three times. I never thought even in my dreams a Ph.D. and of honor. But I did work very hard I just failed examinations again and again.

“A real entrepreneur not only knows how to earn money but knows how to spend it. Real businesspeople make money by solving social problems for others,” Ma said.

In 1995, Ma founded China’s first online business directory, China Pages, and went on to establish online retailing platform Alibaba.com in 1999. Alibaba is now the world’s largest e-commerce platform.

Ma established the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund in 2015 to foster and support start-ups in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
