Srinagar, May 19: Security forces on Friday evening eliminated three Pakistani terrorists in a fierce gun battle that took place near the Line of Control in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. The encounter comes days after central government imposed a conditional ceasefire to stop anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, alert Army personnel foiled an infiltration attempt by a group of terrorists along the Line of Control in Kanwar Brinjal forest area close to the Line of Control in north Kashmir's Kupwara district and eliminated three Pakistani terrorists. The terrorists were challenged, but they opened fire and in the ensuing encounter three terrorists were killed.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Handwara, Ghulam Jeelani Wani confirmed the infiltration bid was foiled. “It happened in the jungles near the LoC”, he added. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, terrorists attacked security forces and looted the bank in two different incidents across Kashmir.

The incident occurred 24 hours after terrorists tortured and strangulated a 28-year-old youth Hilal Ahmad Parray to death in the Hajin area. The body of Hilal Ahmad Parray was recovered from an orchard on Thursday.

Importantly, in a bid to eradicate terrorists and terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian security forces were given free hand. Looking at the holy month of Ramzan and Amarnath Yatra, Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced a conditional ceasefire to stop anti-terror operation.

Earlier, CM Mufti made a plea for a unilateral ceasefire by security forces in Kashmir following the killing of a Chennai tourist by stone-pelting protesters in Kashmir in the aftermath of the May 7 Shopian encounter. Last week, security forces busted a terror module of Hizbul Mujahideen involved in hawala transactions in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir and arrested at least four people, including a former terrorist.
