New Delhi/Bengaluru, May 19: An obviously happy Congress President Rahul Gandhi at the resignation of B S Yeddyurappa Saturday utilised the opportunity to take a dig at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for criticising Congress party and his leadership.

Addressing the media Rahul Gandhi said that this was what we have been fighting for. The BJP government at the centre has been rubbishing and disrespecting every single institution in this country simply because they are in power. “This is something the BJP and The RSS do again and again. Mr. Amit Shah and Mr. Narendra Modi disrespcted the mandate in Goa, Meghalaya, and Manipur. And I'm very happy that they've been shown that in India, the will of the people is everything”, he said.

Giving his best wishes to H D Kumarswamy, Siddharamaiah and Deve Gowda, Rahul Gandhi said, “I hope the BJP and the RSS learn their lessons from this that you cannot disrespect the will of the people in the country”.

“The idea that the PM is fighting corruption in the country is a blatant lie. He is the corruption,” Rahul Gandhi said.

Congress spokesman Ranjit Singh Surjewala said that BJP’s Operation Lotus has failed in Karnataka and democracy has won. Commenting soon after the resignation of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa he said that the BJP’s Operation Lotus to poach legislators from other parties has failed and democracy has won in Kartnataka.

Former Union minister P Chidambaram also said that the democracy in Karnataka was saved for time being.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad addressing the media outside the Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru congratulated the judiciary, the Supreme Court who once again rose to the occasion

"Governor had given BJP 15 days to prove their majority, for horse trading. But the SC said, we see no reason why BJP should be given so many days. Honourable Governor knew BJP did not have so many numbers, so he wanted to give them a long rope," said Azad.

"A lot of our leaders were approached by BJP. BJP tried to lure them with all kinds of inducements, but our leaders rejected them outright. This is a victory of democracy, the Constitution of India and rule of law. Now we are waiting eagerly that the honourable Governor will invite Kumaraswamy to form the government," he said.
