Lucknow, May 19: The Yogi Adityanath government sacked Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation managing director Rajan Mittal after he was named as one of the seven officials responsible for lapses, which led to the collapse of a section of the under-construction flyover in Varanasi, which killed, at least, 15 people on Tuesday.

A three-member probe committee formed by CM Adityanath and headed by state Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) Raj Pratap Singh to find out the reasons for the accident submitted its report to the CM on late Thursday night naming the seven officials for the lapses.

Four top officials of UP Setu Nigam had already been suspended after the Chaukaghat-Lahartara flyover collapsed. The committee pointed out six major lapses in the project that caused the accident.

The chief minister has asked the state Public Works Department and other agencies carrying out construction works to take all steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents. He issued a checklist needed to be strictly followed in all construction works. The points in the list included proper barricading of the construction site and making alternative arrangement for traffic movement.
The official said the chief minister has directed authorities concerned to make third-party inspection necessary of all important works to ensure quality.

CM Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the kin of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for critically injured. He also set up a high-powered three-member panel under agriculture production commissioner Raj Pratap Singh to look into the accident.
