To boost aviation sector, three new airport terminal buildings set to come up at Chennai, Lucknow and Guwahati

New Delhi, May 2: Offering a comfy air travel experience, three major infrastructure projects enveloping new terminal buildings at the Chennai, Lucknow and Guwahati airports were approved today. In a major boost to the aviation sector, the Centre today approved a proposal to build new terminal buildings at the Chennai, Lucknow and Guwahati airports at an estimated cost of over 5,000 Crores. 

This good news was announced by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu straight from Africa, the Cabinet has today approved three major infrastructure projects - new terminal buildings at Guwahati, Chennai and Lucknow airports. It will go a long way in ensuring even superior air travel experience for our people.Sharing a message from South Africa.


In a tweet, Minister Suresh Prabhu said, the new terminal building at Lucknow will have an annual capacity of 13.6 million passengers and will cater to the passenger growth requirements upto 2030-31. It will be built at a cost of Rs. 1232 Crores and will be a major force multiplier towards UP’s growth.

Prabhu further said, the new terminal building at Guwahati will have a capacity of nine million passengers per annum and be built at a cost of Rs 1383 Crores. It will give a major thrust to the ‘Act East’ policy and to tourism in North East India.

Further he said, Chennai Airport long needed a significant capacity addition. The new terminal building approved today will have a capacity of 35 million passengers per annum, and take care of growth requirements till 2027. It will be built at a cost of Rs 2467 Crores.

Last month, the aviation market grew close to 30%. Therefore, the need of the hour is to keep pace with growth and ensure better facilities in airports. If the airports do not grow as fast as the aviation sector is growing, there will be a big challenge at hand, Prabhu added.
